Five-star Alex Collins of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation did not show up for his school’s signing ceremony today, according to SouthFloridaHighSchoolSports.com.
Collins, the nation’s No. 1 running back, committed to Arkansas on Monday night and was expected to sign with the Razorbacks today.
“Alex Collins has not officially signed NLI (National Letter of Intent) with Arkansas,” the website reported on Twitter. “AD (Mike Collins) says ‘the family wants time for due diligence.’”
The website also reported that Collins (5-11, 204 pounds, 4.45-second 40-yard dash) could still sign tonight or later.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Steve Gorten is reporting that he spoke to the South Plantation athletic director, who told him: "At this time there’s no indication of anything other than the original plan. The family just wants more time."
Collins, the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect, chose Arkansas over Florida, Florida State, Miami and Wisconsin on Monday in a televised announcement. Collins has said that his mother wants him to sign with Miami.
