Hard to say from those scrimmages. The coaches kept the defensive schemes pretty vanilla. But I've heard a lot of talk over the years about improved defenses. They're going to have to show me on the field in a game that counts before I ever write that the defense is better.

No way to really know from spring drills. Those stats don't mean much because they didn't allow the QB to be hit and the QBs knew that. They also ran a vanilla D. So no way of knowing. Just because I say no way of knowing doesn't make them better, leaves them as an unknown until we see them about 3-4-5 games deep into this schedule. They have Bama in Week 3, Rutgers Week 4 and go to A&M Week 5. We should know a lot after that three game stretch. While I think the defense will be better, there's no way to know that until they do it on the field.

the defense will be a lot better this year. Paul Haynes and this staff are a staff whereas Willy was a joke.
