Sanburn, McClure sign; Stankiewicz doesn't

  • Per UA media relations, former Hog pitcher Nolan Sanburn signed with the A's on Friday. Also, per Jim Callis of Baseball America, Hogs signee D'Vone McClure of Jacksonville got a $765,000 bonus when he signed with Cleveland on Thursday.

Also, according to Callis, the Mets did not sign second-round pick Teddy Stankiewicz, a RHP from Fort Worth who has signed with Arkansas.

  • Teddy is going to a JC though and will not be at Arkansas. He wants to enter the draft again next year.

  • Man that erks me, then why sign with Arkansas to begin with? Just yanking DVH's chain. I would hate to recruit with the way the current system is in place.Curious to know what scenario would have brought him to Arkansas. Totally bummed when I read the post, thought we had another stud arm coming .

Once he was drafted in second round, DVH knew he wasn't coming here either way. The kid wants to get drafted again next year by a different organization. UA will be fine, but I know what you mean as a coach it would drive me nuts to recruit a kid and then lose him like this.

Signing deadline passes for MLB Draft

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The signing deadline for players drafted in the 2012 MLB Draft passed on Friday afternoon with two current members of the Arkansas baseball team and two incoming recruits not signing before the deadline.

Rising senior southpaw Randall Fant, a 29th-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians, did not sign before the 4 p.m. (CT) deadline on Friday. A native of Texarkana, Texas, Fant pitched in 15 games, including 14 starts, and had a 2-3 record with a 3.27 ERA. In 52.1 innings of work, Fant allowed 20 runs, 19 earned, on 59 hits and struck out 39 batters, while issuing just 11 walks. In his first three seasons as a Razorback, Fant has pitched in 45 games, including 35 starts, and has an 8-10 record with a 3.79 ERA.

Rising redshirt junior outfielder Jacob Morris, a 37th-round selection of the Indians, also did not sign before the deadline. A product of Coppell, Texas, Morris played in 52 games and made 49 starts as the everyday centerfielder for Arkansas before an injury in the Auburn series sidelined him for the rest of the season. Morris hit .236 on the season with three homers and 23 RBI. He had nine multi-hit games on the season. Morris has played in 75 games, including 67 starts, in his first two years at Arkansas. Morris has a .222 batting average with three homers and 28 RBI.

Matt Reynolds, Nolan Sanburn, DJ Baxendale, Tim Carver, Sam Bates and Derrick Bleeker all signed professional contracts. Reynolds and Sanburn were each drafted in the second round with the New York Mets drafting Reynolds and the Oakland Athletics selecting Sanburn. Baxendale was a 10th-round choice of the Minnesota Twins, while Carver was drafted in the 19th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Bates was selected in the 28th round by the Kansas City Royals, while Bleeker was picked in the 37th round by the Baltimore Orioles.

Arkansas had five signees drafted in the 2012 MLB Draft, with two of the five deciding not to sign before the deadline. Right-handed pitcher Teddy Stankiewicz (New York Mets, 2nd round) and left-handed pitcher Colin Poche (Baltimore Orioles, 5th round) did not sign before the deadline.

Three drafted recruits did sign before the deadline. Outfielder D’Vone McClure, a fourth-round choice of the Cleveland Indians, right-handed pitcher Ty Buttrey, a fourth-round selection of the Boston Red Sox and outfielder Shilo McCall, a ninth round pick of the San Francisco Giants, all signed professional contracts.

UA will get Colin Poche though a left handed pitcher who was a fifth round pick of O's. He will be at Arkansas so that was a nice pickup.
