SEC needs to stop poking the sleeping beast

  • First, I'm on record saying this is a good hire for Arkansas and I understand none of you will understand this statement in a vacuum of excitement (or lack there of) in this hire.

But the B1G ... yes the nations richest conference has been asleep for the better part of 2 decades. Complacent, fat and happy. Facilities... who needs them. Coaches / Assistants salaries... we'll find someone.

This hire has had a ripple effect in the B1G. A conference that is two years away from signing the richest TV deal in the history of college athletics... hearing 50+ million per school. The advantage that the SEC has had for a couple decades... passion, most importantly $$... I get the feeling is about to evaporate.

I wish you the best of luck. But people are starting to get pissed of in B1G country. As the old sayin goes... never hit the guy with the bigger stick. Should be interesting to watch over the next decade.

  • So a coach leaving the Big 10 for the SEC is "poking the sleeping beast"?

Not worried. Saban left in the same manner to win a bunch of titles in the SEC. I haven't felt the repercussion wave on that deal yet....

Please don't take this wrong but the SEC will rework their tv deal to have a bigger one bc we have added 2 teams and we will go to a 9 game conference schedule just for the TV stations.

The SEC is the best conference and will continue to be. Especially because of three main points: 1. Midwest is losing population to the warmer states every day 2. The South grows interior lineman on trees. 3. Support for a winner, outside of Michigan and Ohio State, are optional in the Big 10. It's mandatory down here. Keep claiming quiz bowl trophies though, the SEC will claim football titles.

The quicker you realize this the better off you will be emotionally. There is a reason why Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas.

This is pure fantasy, but hey, I pretended to beat Michael Jordan one on one when I was a kid shooting baskets in the driveway too. Pure fantasy...You may improve facilities, even get better coaches, but until the gene pool for players up there improves, (the midwest) you wont have our volume of above average to elite talent down south...ps Im a Gator fan, so any rebuttals or insults, leave the Hogs out of it. Big stick? I got a recommendation where to put that "big stick".

Coaches who can't handle the constant stress and challenges of the SEC go to the "Big" 10 to relax. Your conference is as much of a joke as your post!

  • I guess losing pretty much every big game to the SEC wasnt enough.

    EDJR30

  • CBB came without receiving a huge raise! He wants to compete for an NC. Although Arkansas is in the most difficult division in the most difficult conference, he still has a better chance here than in the Big 10. Wisconsin is in the top 3 in the Big 10 which is higher than our pecking order in the SEC most of the time. However, in our best years, we have a chance. We compete against the best every week. The Big 10 is probably tied for a distant second with the Big 12. ghg

  • @SEC1---Gene pool? Are you kidding? So Southern players are just "better"? At the DNA level, in fact? LOL. Forget Spring ball, which doesnt happen in the Midwest, but the new rules on oversigning that are coming? Thats the difference. Ohio State recruited 85 players (the supposed maximum for 4 years) and signed them over the past 4 years. Your bell-cow, Bama, signed 132. AND THEY ONLY HAVE 9 SENIORS ON THEIR SQUAD!! LOL!! And lots of other teams in the SEC are just as bad. THATS the big advantage, and you're losing it.

There are a lot more great players in the south compared to Big 10 country. If you were to look at NFL rosters there are a lot more players from TX, FL, GA, LA, AL, MS, TN, SC, and AR than from the states that make up the Big 10. So yes, the SEC has a lot better talent pool to choose from than the Big 10.
