Recruiting argument

  • How is recruiting going to suffer from this? We already lost Tenpenny, no way BP would have got Hunter Henry and so on. bP lost DGB on signing day. This hire allows us to maximize next season, and then go for home run. Don't forget BP's best class (his first one ) was put together starting that December. Also, BP was great, but his lack of recruiting set us up for a big drop off after this year when you look at the depth chart.

BP inherited a class that had 19 commitments hardly the same as this. I know some decommitted and he added Tyler Wilson, Joe Adams and others, but they had 19 commitments so not hardly the same at all. In addition, recruiting will suffer, but it is obvious that Long's commitment was in place to give the players on campus their best chance to win this fall and then let the rest work itself out. Doesn't mean recruiting will suck, but kind of naive if anyone thinks recruiting won't suffer because of all that is going on at Arkansas.

  • I just don't think we can act like we were a recruiting juggernaut under BP and this was our year to capitalize. We were going to lose the top 2 players instate and still may. We did not see a huge bump after the sugar bowl season and we were already behind this year before he got onto the motorcycle

For Arkansas, recruiting out of state is so much more important than instate simply because of the # of D1 prospects this state produces. Instate talent is not the greatest concern, IMO. Recruiting will be hurt outside of the State with an interim coach, regardless of who it is. The out-of-state kids are so much harder to land because they have zero built in loyalty. At that point, it requires a staff that can utilize all sales points to close the deal. An interim staff is very limited in this regard.
