I do not think you were listening. The way I provided the info is what I have apologized for. I did not retract what I believe to be true. I feel I have shared privilege info that I did not get clearance to share. That is a violation of confidence. Why did I do this? I got too damn excited, thats why. Then I started typing before thinking. If I could share with you the info I received you would understand why I screwed up.

That is the point. Gruden is a home run. Coaches like Patterson and Franklin are just a base hit. Of course neither one of these will be the coach. All of Franklin's SEC wins this year have been at the expense of good teams having a down year. Every ranked SEC team he lost to. That in and of itself makes Franklin anything but a home run hire. When it comes to Patterson, here is his record at TCU for the past 8 years:

They have two games left: Texas & Oklahoma So it is quite possible that Patterson will go 6-6 this year in the Big 12. Now why did the winning percentage go down so much? Because the level of competition went up. Some here state that Patterson would be a home run hire. A possible 6-6 record is a home run hire? The Bowl record reflects the competition level also. This should be enough evidence to prove that Patterson will not be able to compete in the SEC and he definitely is NOT a home run hire.

Snowrider, I appreciate any info you can bring. You gotta admit, it seems pretty far fetched, but who knows?? You never really know who really knows something or who just thinks he knows something. We all have a friend of a friend who knows this or that person who says this or that. There are very few who are actually in JL's inner circle and I'm sure they are sworn to secrecy so to speak. But it seems there is always somebody who lets something out he or she shouldn't. You never know who that might be and you might get lucky. At the end of the day it's all fun. We all hope JL doesn't strike out on this one because everyone knows it's probably going to be his signature hire while he is here. I think he will come through in a big way, mainly because he has had so much time to do his due diligence, he has seen first hand that a great coach will more than pay for itself, and now he gets a big raise before a new coach is announced.......come on, it's got to be big time hire.

I don't like all of this pessimism floating around here by some. Petrino awakened the program from sleep mode. Now it's time to keep the momentum going. Personally, I think Gruden and Carroll are the only names I'd consider "homerun" hires. However, I can't deny that I think Gundy or Franklin MIGHT just be a better option for the long haul. I think both of their futures are very bright. Franklin really intrigues me with his charisma and subsequent recruiting prowess. He hasn't really beaten anybody yet, but I guarantee you it's coming soon. Both Strong and Patterson I think would do well, but for some reason, I just don't think they could quite bring us to the top....but I could easily be wrong. I can't see Peterson, Mora, or Chip Kelly coming here from out west, and I think Davis/Tuberville/Dykes/Taggart are somewhat of a roll of the dice. Pelini.. really.....please...I don't think so. Who knows what will happen but it's been a fun but exhausting ride!

I understand if you're not excited about the possibility of Patterson being the next HC but I truly don't get the bashing of him. The guy has 6 11+ win seasons at a place that hasn't won anything in decades. As far as this year they've had injuries but mostly he's playing in the big 12 with players recruited to play in the Mountain West conference.

I don't understand where you got out of my post that I was bashing Patterson?? There is nothing farther from the truth. I'm just have not been able to convince myself that he would do as well as some think.
