Interesting read, and I would agree that having an affair and lying to his boss won't, in and of themselves, get Petrino fired.
However, Mr. Kirk failed to mention issues which are likely to get Petrino fired, which include a possible sexual harassment lawsuit by Dorrell, a possible hostile work environment lawsuit by her fiancé, and possible lawsuits by anyone who applied for the job Dorrell was given.
Petrino exposed the university to huge financial risk, and that is a much greater issue than the two issues which the article centered on. I'm not saying here that Petrino should or shouldn't be fired...but I am saying that the biggest issue is one which this article failed to address. This incident isn't about merely having an affair and lying to the boss.

sexual harassment from Dorrell? They were having an affair. It was like she rejected his advances or something. She was on the back of a bike with him a few months before she was to be married. hostile work environment from her fiance? Petrino and him don't even work that close together. Why doesn't the math professor also sue BP? Possible lawsuit by those who applied for the job? Lawsuits are filed every day about something and while one could filed by someone but that is no reason to get him fired.

Alabama set a similar precedent, and I haven't heard of any issues they've had because of it. Mike DuBose was accused of having an affair with his secretary in 1999. He denied it but eventually forked over $300,000 out of court. He kept his job, but his contract was reworked. He got fired at the end of the 2000 season for having a bad team.
