Jeff Long's performance tonight

  • Looking back now that I'm done writing, I don't think Jeff Long could have handled the press conference much better. If he handles the coaching search as well as he did the press conference, Arkansas' football program should be in good hands.

    You know that as a guy charged with overseeing the current expansion and improvements to the athletic facilities, firing Petrino probably had to be the last thing he wanted to do. When he found that $20,000 smoking gun and learned their relationship had been going on for a "significant" amount of time, I don't think he had any choice but to do what he did.

    I also think some UA employees other than BP and his mistress must have been very, very candid in their discussions with Long.

  • Im a Bama fan, not a Hog fan. This thread is as good of a place to put it. Jeff Long picked up a lot of points in my book tonight. The man was all class in his press conference and carried himself better than anyone else probably could have. Arkansas has a top notch AD and everyone should be proud of that.

  • As posted yesterday, Arkansas made the only and correct decision. You guys just saved yourselves years of problems that always damage a team when these situations occur. Petrino has big issues and eventually those issues would have shown up on the field.

    I am an Alabama fan also and I agree about Jeff Long and the class he showed in his actions and the press conference. Arkansas will get through these rough times as did my university and you have the respect of all SEC fans for the class and integrity shown by your administration.

  • I agree Robert. I was and still am probably Bobby Petrino's biggest supporter in Arkansas media, but Long made a very tough decision and in the grand scheme of things I now realize he made the best decision for him. I have always thought since he was at Louisville that BP was one of the two or three best coaches in college football and I still feel that way, but BP brought all this on himself and while I hate it for him, I hate it more for the asst coaches who now may be a few weeks away from being terminated as well and the players who have no idea who is going to be coaching them. Very tough decision by Long and I don't know how anyone could not respect him for the way he has handled this entire situation.
