Horton Question

  • He loves that Helmet!!

Really though, Tim is a good coach. I wouldn't call him great because he has never been tested. He has recruits in a state for a school that everyone worships. He has been blessed to coach in two offenses here too. One was a run-it-up-the-middle-every-play offense, which equals big numbers. The other was an explosive offense that put up big numbers everywhere. BP's passing game really opened up the running game and gave backs a lot of room to work when we threw the ball. That is not to say someone didn't have to coach those RB's, but I think he had many advantages here for him that allowed him to thrive.

Horton is a good coach, not the next Vince Lombaridi either. I believe that his loss isn't good, but he is certainly not irreplaceable either. There are even upgrades out there too.

Does it really fire ya'll up to hire a coach whose recruiting contacts are in a state that produces 6 SEC prospects a year max and only has one BCS school that pretty much everyone follows from the time they are 2 years old ??

That would not fire me up at all. That would be like telling me we have hired a coach that played at Nebraska and had coached at Nebraska for the last 6 years and would now be recruiting Nebraska for Arkansas. How many SEC level players would Arkansas be able to get from Nebraska ???

Ask yourself the same question about Auburn and Arkansas. You may get a few guys here and there but you aren't going to make a living recruiting Arkansas if you are Auburn so I don;t really get the Horton hire. But then again, NOBODY is a smart as Jegus so we will all just have to bow at his highness and exalt his hiring of Tim Horton.

We have gawdlike recruiters...looking for solid coaches.

Looking for solid coaches at TE !!!!!!!!!! Really ?? Seriously ? So the goal is "Lets get gawd like recruiters at the important positions like OL, DL, OC and DC that require top notch decision making and game planning skills and lets get good solid coaches at a position like TE where a guy may see the ball twice a game". Hey ..GREAT STRATEGY !!!

Our RB's fumbled the hell out of the ball this year. Make your own decision on whether or not that has anything to do with the RB coach. Pretty sure I could have coached DMac and Felix to 1000 yard seasons. They were 1st round draft picks.

Quite frankly, RB, WR and TE coach is where most staffs put younger less experienced coaches (or older less skilled coaches) whose strength is that they can recruit like madmen because you can "hide" a weaker coach there. It doesn't take as much strategic thinking to be a RB or WR/TE coach as it does to coach other positions.

That is what puzzles me about this hire by Jegus. Why hire someone like Tim whose contacts are in a state that produces about 5 or 6 SEC level players a year for a position like TE coach when you could hire some young energetic recruiting machine with contacts in a state like Florida or Georgia or Texas ???

Strange hire if you ask me.
