DJ should start

  • I don't want anyone to say I'm crazy but I think DJ should start at running back, at least the first couple of games. DJ has done a tremendous job and he is an outstanding back. He's very versatile. I love seeing those short legs get going and he will run you over. Don't want Trusty to kill me, but he is so much better than Wingo. I hope Knile has a fabulous year but I think he needs to prove himself again. Any takers on this?

Ha ha, no bro, you're off base on that one. No way, no how, is DJ better than Knile. So says me, Otis and every NFL scout on the planet.

I guess I read what you said differently than these othere guys. I took you to mean that DJ deserves to start the first couple of games becasue he has worked so hard, has taken all the contact in practice and scrimmages, not becasue you think he is better than Knile. I think you are saying let him start in the first game and then work Knile in since he has had no contact in a year, let him get his legs and timing back over the first couple of games while his carries are increasing. It makes some sense to me.

DJ should definately play but Knile should start if the staff feels he's 100%....and they do!

Nixahog, you were correct. Let Knile prove he is ready for contact and take DJ's spot. Knile has been gone for a year. I knew Trusty would go off.biggrin

Yes, I think it is up to the coaches and Knile. I wasn't trying to promote the idea as much as clarifying what I thought the OP was trying to say. Actually I think Knile would be fine with giving DJ the start. That's just the kind of kid Knile is and he and DJ are great friends.

  • Heisman contenders usually get first dibs. If we want him to stay in that race then he has to be the guy in front.

DJ will get his fair share of touches just the same though simply because he will be on the field playing a minimum of 3 different spots if not 4 if they decide to place him on punt return.

  • I'm concerned with Knile's lack of heavy contact that he might get a little dinged up early or have a few fumbling issues. I'm sure the staff will try to use those first two games to get him up to speed for Bama.

  • I'd rather take the odds of going with the things that can be readily/easily fixable rather than risking the chance of losing him completely before he even has a chance to step on the field and play.

He will get some contact expierence in the first two games where hopefully the starters won't (shouldnt) have to play the whole game if they come in with their minds right.

I agree. That was the point of my post as well... even though I didn't do a very good job relaying the message.

DJ won't start, because the staff will need Knile to be out there with the 1s during that time. He needs to get up to speed and that's the best time for that to happen. The first team Oline shouldn't have to play a ton in those games. Knile needs to be with them as much as possible during that time.
