when you take guys like the three defensders we took on Sunday.
None were ranked very high or had a ton of great offers.
That being said (looking for some positives here).....I think our new head coach would tell you this. "I was a nobody walkon and ended up starting in the Big 10."
I think this staff looked at these guys and said;
1. Can run well................................check
2. Will hit.........................................check
3. Can tackle...................................check
4. Room to grow...............................check
5. High character..............................check
6. Not big grade risk......................check
7. Good areas to get foot in door...check
We never have won any recruiting ranking wars. (In 20+years)
Conversely, we've never won anything to speak of either.
I'm only responsible for what I SAY, not for what YOU UNDERSTAND.
Guys...it won't always be this way. I mean...we just beat Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Florida State and many others for two huge OL's...and still have 3 other OL's with HUGE offer lists still considering us.
I have a great feeling that next year, you will see us sign some on the defensive side of the ball that will have similar looking offer sheets.
This isn't your same ol' recruiting staff.
Btw...go look how far we've jumped in the 24/7 team rankings the past couple of weeks. At one time yesterday, we were up to #35.
But that OL that committed to UA, yes the same one the coaches wanted desparately, is only rated a 3-star by most services. So, obviously, he's not THAT good . Why don't CBB and the coaches at OSU, Michigan, etc. pay more attention to these recruiting services? It sure would make there job easier!!!
I'm not trying to be a negative nancy, nor am I trying to sound argumentative.
But, yeah, we beat OSU, Michigan and others (if we can't compete with Tennessee and ole miss for recruits, then we truly are in trouble) for recruits. But two things to consider. They were 3* players, not like we hit a huge home run with them. Plus you have to figure in their depth chart versus ours. Why go to any of those places and play 5 downs per game for two years, and possibly start year three or four, when you can compete early here?
Good point....I know some aggies still bitching about that 3-star QB they signed two years ago!!
Actually, you ARE being a negative Nancy.
Koehler is a 4* on many services. The only reason Skipper isn't a 4* is that he was found REALLY late by Tennessee. That's why Ohio St., Michigan, Oklahoma and others came after him so hard the last 2 months. Btw...he said he's coming to Arkansas because he liked his visit the best.
Also...we're still in it for 4* Lacy and 4* Kirkland...and 5* Collins. When have we ever gotten this kind of attention from sought after recruits that were in states that don't border Arkansas?
You can sit there in your doom and gloom and pick apart this class...or you can actually look at and realize that IF we get a good RB in this class, we've actually filled many of our needs....and we already have a decent start to next year.
bobby petrino couldnt sign a top class he fared his best defensive coordinatur in willy robinson and wouldnt even give ronnie wingo a chance to be the best tailback on the team he shouldnt have ever fared willy robinson
Petrino won with what talent he wanted. He found kids that he could coach up.
Can Bielema do the same? I hope.
He won primarily with kids recruited by HDN! Not popular to say...but he was just getting to the point where all the kids in the program were recruited by him when he decided to go for a drive on his motorcycle!

The further removed from HDN's recruiting, the more wins he had.
In other words, every year a Nutt class would be replaced with a Petrino class.
5. 8. 10. 11.
You could argue that or you could argue the fifth year seniors and a lot of the 4th year juniors recruited by Nutt were responsible for alot of the improvement and that argument would make as much sense. Not a HDN fan but when you try to brag on Bobby's recruiting classes you're fighting a losing battle.
