I normally don't read the guy's articles because he usually doesn't have a kind word to say about Arkansas. My curiosity got the best of me with this one, and I read it. He's actually pretty kind to the U and Long especially. Thought I'd pass it along to any that are interested and haven't seen it yet.
From Yahoo! Sports: Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has successfully navigated the school through a tough month, first by firing Bobby Petrino and now in hiring John L. Smith.
Here is one on the other side of the fence
The antics of Meta World Peace didn't stir him, but Arkansas hiring John L. Smith as interim coach to replace Bobby Petrino? Gregg Doyel takes time off from his time off for thoughts on replacing one miscreant with another.
So based on that mentality of leaving a employer high and dry.....let's see with the candidates that have been mentioned who would fit that role?
Gruden: Just signed a new contract with ESPN
McGee: Same issue as Smith
Malzahn: Same issue as Smith
Mooch: Contract with the NFL network
Roman: Contract with 49ers....
about the only one that wouldn't leave an employer high and dry would have been Fulmer...or internally, of course all of the other internal candidates would have been thrilled that they weren't chosen////
Bottom line: People leave employers high and dry ALL THE TIME for a better opportunity and employers fire people ALL THE TIME even without cause....That's life...
Peace, Love, Toes in the Sand....
now that's what i expected from doyel - more of the same recycled nonsense. he probably took one of his old anti-petrino articles and did a find-and-replace for petrino to smith.
More venom nonsense from BSPN, a company that thru the years has truly earned the name BSPN.
In hiring John L. Smith -- even on a short-term basis -- Arkansas brings in a coach with a credibility problem similar to his predecessor.
Someone who actually gets it...not a big fan of Forde but he understands the logic and reasoning behind this move...
