I'm at Bud Walton for Mike's press conference in advance of Friday's season opener vs. Sam Houston State. Posting tidbits in this thread:
Mike Anderson on the comfort level on this team: Being able to practice and play this summer was very, very important for everyone to get a chance to figure out how they do things.
On Sam Houston St.: Return two starting guards, but he's more worried about what the Hogs are doing. Wants them to create tempo on defense, get the game going up and down the floor to their liking.
On Dee Wagner, who was offered by Sam Houston St.: Mike saw a guy who's a winner. A character kid. He's a leader. In year 2 and year 3, you'll see a different kind of player. Has a big heart. That's the thing he likes, that he's a winner. He'll do the things it takes to win, and he doesn't mind being the bad guy by getting on teammates for doing something wrong.
Mike likes the pace that the team's playing with right now. Said they need to get the turnovers cleaned up. A lot of them are from being in a hurry. Said this team will be a work in progress, but he likes the work ethic and mindset.
Not sure if he's going to start the same five Friday. He'll have a better gauge on that tomorrow.
Hogs don't play for nine days after this: With 18 games in conference play now, it leaves a window. Not all bad. Gives a chance to get some practice in.
Thanks for the updates, RT
Not much to it. Mike said a lot, but at the same time, he didn't. Which I understand. Not really much to say right now.
We are fortunate to have Mike back on the hill. I am enjoying the process of us getting back to the top!
