There is a lot of concern voiced about Anderson lately, in particular regarding losing Jones. I look at the last class and the one coming up amd cant help but think we are on the correct path. 4 classes of that puts us in great position. Harris, Bell, Clarke, Qualls, Portis, Kingsley can play and fit into CMA's scheme. All the talk about whether CMA's scheme works these days or whether he can coach etc seem crazy to me seeing as he's done it at 2 different places. Taking over a program that's stunk for 10 years and inheriting players recruited to a totally different system takes time to transform. All of this year 2, year 3 stuff is bizarre. APR was awful, talent was lacking and the talent he had didn't really fit. Give him time to get the pieces but it will take time. There needs to be progress but year 5 and 6 is what I'm more concerned about.
I agree with you he needs time and if he can put together a couple solid recruiting classes with his type of player we will be fine. I think some Arkansas fans forget about the previous years. Our basketball program has been in the toilets for a long time. Let us hope people let him have some time. It will be that away in Football if we loose to Rutgers, Texas A@M, and Alabama people will question the hiring of Coach B. The ship is sailing in the right direction let us see where it takes us before throwing in the towels.
From NEA to NWA.
I was a luke warm Mike guy when he was hired (I was kind of hoping for Buzz at the time)....but was fine with the hire and still am so far. I just think that we should be a top 25 team every year for the most part and it shouldn't take us that long to get back up there IMO. Good coaching and a few good players can take you a long way. As long as we see improvement every year, we can't bitch too much, but I did thought we would see a little better team by this point and his recruiting certainly hasn't blown me away as of yet. I'm having a hard time stomaching the play away from home. I wish I could get more excited, but it's hard to right now.......especially when you see and compare it to what is happening on the football side of things.
The system will work just has to get his guys in !!
I also wanted Buzz Williams.

I agree to an extent, I just don't think it should take 4 classes in Basketball, football yes, but not basketball. There is too much talent out there and we have had some of it in-state as well. If we had signed a good PG last year, or Pressey would have came with Mike like he wanted then we would have been a different team last year and this coming year.
PG is not a committee position, it is the floor leader, players depend on their PG and play according to his style, they move certain ways, rebound certain ways, etc. When you have 3 diff PG you get in the wrong position and do the wrong things trying to keep up with who is in the game.

Win 3 games on the road in one season for goodness sakes, and then maybe I will try to care about basketball again. Playing away from home should not be nearly as big a deal in basketball as it is in football. It is pretty much just mental. For now I will have to live with 20 year old memories of going down to Texas and routinely whooping us some Longhorn, now we cannot even compete with Ole Miss in their dump of a gym.

I'm willing to give Mike more time than I did Pel. Mike is no doubt a better fit for the job due to the obvious. I got caught up in Pel's 1st season until the reality of SEC brought us back to planet Earth. Pel was always a square peg in a round hole as an SEC head coach. I don't get that sense with current staff. Pieces are being put in place and I still believe it will take until year 4 to get back to the big dance.
Good post Hogineer
Concerns.. Some mentioned the development piece. I have to admit there are things that cause for concern. The development piece is definitely one for me. I do think Qualls and Clarke got considerably better over the course of the year, but not seeing a lot of players get better from year to year. That might be more a "not Mike's guys" case than his coaching. He has proven at 2 different places that he can do it. The winning on the road discrepancy was infuriating as well, but there are just too many factors working against a quick turnaround. Portis, Kingsley, Harris, Qualls, Clarke seem tailor made for his system. Give him a chance to get guys with the right mentality and skill set. CMA will be given time and in my extremely useless opinion, he will do very well in time.
Please buckw21 back it up with something. It has never worked anywhere he's been so tell us how it's going to work at Arkansas. This last season was the lowest the SEC has ever been and he can't win but one game on the road give me a break.... Please tell us he hasn't made it work for like what 10+ years now???
Buss would have been a breath of fresh air and would have been a fantastic coach that would have won twice as many games at Arkansas than what we hired.....
Nolan never cared to get a great staff, Mike may be the same way.
This is why Bielema may turn out to be my all time favorite head coach
to be real i really thought they should of made the nit this year they did enought this year to at least make that one. but i really believe he will get us back to the dance.
If you had a inside look on what is the basketball program people would be unhappy.
What do you mean? Can you elaborate, please?

Just the way the staff operates.
How do they operate? I assume you either A) have first hand knowledge of how the basketball program operates, or B) have talked to a reliable source that has first hand knowledge of what's going on. Inquiring minds would like to know what you're hinting at...
