Houston Nutt is talking to the Dallas Cowboys about one of their openings, according to former Dallas Morning News writer Matt Mosley (now with ESPN radio and Fox Sports SW). Matt covered the Cowboys when I did and is pretty plugged in, so I'd say this is probably true.
"@mattmosley I'm hearing the Cowboys are talking to former Arkansas HC Houston Nutt about one of their openings. It would NOT be off coordinator-playcall"
"@mattmosley Folks have told me Houston Nutt wanted a job in the NFL. Makes sense he would start by talking to his good pal Jerry Jones. Position coach."
"@mattmosley Houston Nutt would likely be either the RBs coach or the TEs coach once John Garrett lands another gig. It's pretty obvious John's out."
"@mattmosley And for anyone who's still holding out hope that JG's making these moves, I present to you Houston Nutt from the state of Arkansas."

certainly not QB coach.....lord what a disaster that would be.
I wish him the best. Not a fan of his or a rival... everyone needs to work though. You think his unemployment has run out?

From NEA to NWA.
This is probably the worst move yet of Jerry Jones. Ill find another team to pull for while Houston is there.
hell i may have to become a cowboys fan now. i hate the nfl but some of u act as if nutt stole ur wife or something. six years later and still acting like some of u do then u want to get over here and make fun of the way wisconsin fans trash bielema.
Bilema isn't half retarded, nor did he get fired from his last two coaching stints....
"I called that play, Chuck! I called that one!"
yeah well at least when bielema is gone for six years maybe wisconsin fans will be over it by then. nutt may be half retarded as u say but he 42-38 in sec games while here, beat no.1 lsu there in his final game here and at least made the hogs something besides the laughing stock of the sec which they were before he arrived. i actually dont give a damn about where nutt coaches or the cowboys i just get tired of people and their hate towards simeone all the time.
I don't hate the guy, I just think he wasn't a good coach. Yes, he had some early success and had 1 great season. Still didn't win but 2 bowl games out of 7, here. Lost to the worst rushing team in the nation (Minnesota) when that's all we did, lost to UNLV (almost lost to them on opening weekend the following season), a 10-4 season saved his job, the university paid his buyout to go to Ole Miss (think it was $1-3 million). I will admit, we did have great/good/decent running backs and OL in his tenure. But he never had a good QB, WR, and defense. If you look back at how bad our roster and depth was when Petrino got here, then you'd think "my god, where are our players?" Then he goes to Ole Miss and has 2 years if back to back Cotton Bowls and goes on his rant about 50 years since it happen there. That's all the guy wants; just get to a bowl. He didn't care if he was 6-6 or if he was 12-0. Just get his team to some kind of bowl.
how can u disrespect a great person and very good wr like marcus monk saying they had no good wrs? matt jones was a very good qb. as far as a depleted roster tell me how u like the one petrino left come november
But with Petrino, we'd still make a bowl and might even win the game. With a depleted roster and depth with Nutt, he'd go 4-8 or 5-7. I will admit, Petrino's 2-3 year recruits didn't pan out and some aren't even on the team. But, he had good RBs, good WRs, good QBs.
Matt Jones was a WR playing QB. If he went to any other school he would have played WR. He won us some games but I wouldn't say he was "very good" QB. But, I don't believe Klein was that good, as an actual passer. And they both were the same throwing the ball.
1 WR he recruited in his 10 years here. The other bolted to USC and is playing in the NFL
I'll never change teams never have but if Jones does hire Nutt that just proves he is crazy. Nutt is a sorry human being and a sorry ass coach. How did his last 2 years in the SEC go?
People who love Nutt will always love Nutt. I don't have anything good to say about Nutt and can't stand him for good reasons. He's a sorry man!
If playing in the NFL is what you define as a good WR then Richard Smith played with Kansas City and I think DeCori B who had a big catch to beat LSU might have even played there.
Petrino had good RBs? He got one good year out of Knile and one good year out of Michael Smith, but other than that his RBs were pretty average though I do think Jonathan Williams will be a stud. If you are going to talk about RBs, I think Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, Michael Smith, Cedric Cobbs, and some of those Nutt recruits were decent.
Petrino won more games than Nutt because he was a hell of a lot better coach, not because he recruited better. Petrino's defenses were awful as were most of Nutts as well. Petrino as I have said is one of the 2-3-4 best coaches in the business and if he had recruited like he should have Arkansas wouldn't be in the shape it is going to be in this fall. 21 wins in 2 years should have left a much better roster than he left for this current staff to try and play that murderious schedule with this fall.
Forgot about Dennis Johnson that was another good RB under BP.

I am over Nutt, and harbor no hate for him. He's probably a really awesome guy. He's just an idiot in my opinion, and not that great of a coach. I don't believe we won many, if any, of the big time games we won because of his shear coaching ability.
I also am not really old enough to know much about the state of the program before Nutt, so I can't comment on that. I just think it is hilarious that Jerry would even entertain the idea of hiring him. I'll stop having opinions though.
Why would any strange hire by Jerry Jones surprise you? It is when he makes a great hire you should be stunned.
Like I said: I don't hate the guy, I just never thought he was a good coach. His time management was God awful (worse than Les Miles). We'd have the ball near the 50 or in our territory, with 2 minutes left and he rather run out the clock than try to pass it a lot of the times. And in the interview the reports would ask what happened and he would say "I just didn't want something to happen to give them momentum going into the 2nd half; I just didn't want to take a chance".. That's almost as bad as JLS kicking a field goal on 4th and 1 at the half yard line in a meaningless win/lose game down 17-10 at the time.
But, like I said: I don't hate him, I just never liked him as a coach after a few years.
