4 star Texas DE Hall from WASHINGTON and 4 star Texas DE Prevot from SoCal
Well, again - i wonder why we didn't go after a couple of kids in TX - the Hall kid being one and Billings the DT.
I know Otis said that the UA didn't "need" Hall with the DE's they got last year. But, do you really think A&M needs another one? I'm thinking not, but its about amassing big time talent where you can get it. We have open scholarships and "liking" a kid is one thing, but none of the kids we signed last year has played a down yet. What if Hall blows all of them away and is your #1?
I guess my question is going to be, and remains to be seen - will you sign a kid as a DEC grad next year that is definitely better than 2 4* defensive players you chose not to recruit this year? One that will be at a very high need position in a years time... Can't wait to see who these kids are that we bring in at mid term to count back....

Do we know for a fact that they didn't go after them ? Could there have been zero interest on the part of the player ? Maybe they contacted him and the kid said don't waste your time ? There are certain places that I would never live even if I rec'd a free scholarship, maybe the kid is the same way ?
I am certain with this team they are behind the scenes and calling these kids. I know you cant visit personally if we have the chance I agree with the thinking hey if we can get a better four star this year as opposed to a less mid entry why not. I think we will have someone who was not suppose to sign with us.
I'm pretty close with Will H - that was Billings teammate - he told me he would be interested - yet, nothing came of it from our end.
So, I'm taking the leap that we didn't contact him or extend an offer. I actually don't know for sure on Hall, but you would think with JT on board that if we made contact, offered ect it would be reported in some way.
I think they were pretty content with signing just 1 DT. I also think that time just got the best of them Lee. I can only imagine walking into a situation and knowing that you only have 4 weeks to sign 15 kids. That has to be mind boggling for these guys and I'm guessing that they circled the wagons and just decided to work on kids that they already knew and were familiar with. I doubt they had much extra time to look at kids they hadn't looked at before and I don't think any of our coaches had ever looked at Billings.
Think about the pressure of knowing that you have to come up eith 13-15 signees and if you don't, you are SCREWED big time ! Given that scenario, I would have done what they did and just tried to sign guys that I was already familiar with. To take the time to review film and talk to coaches and go to visit a guy like Billings would have been pretty hard to do with the small amount of time they had. It would have taken them away from other recruits that they already knew they had a chance with and that they liked. That's probably not the best use of their time, given how valuable time was in this situation.
It shows 8 as having signed.
Well said. They have done a hell of a job. I think we will pick up a shocker to get us up to 25 for sure.
I agree with you - as you may be correct on the 1 DT for this class. What that tells me is that I think we have a kid moving there that we don't necessarily know about. I know JT had a relationship with Hall - but we didn't act on it for whatever reason - at least to our knowledge. But hey, you can't argue with the results thus far - that is for sure...
Don't know if you know this but Arkadie is over 280 now so he is going to be a DT.
I knew Arkadie had moved, but when you think about it - After next year when Bryan Jones leaves - you will have Arkadie, Demarcus Hodge and D Philon at DT - and he was basically leaving before BB talked to him. Then, you add (a kid I like by the way) but still has to be called a project with K Marks. So, under that scenario - how comfortable are you with that? Me, not so much. You are really taking a leap of faith if you think Hodge/Arkadie/Philon are going to ascend to Top SEC quality. Not that I don't like those kids, I do and am glad they are Hogs (I always feel I better throw that in for some), but we are trying to get and play the best players we can - no? I don't know, but maybe if we didn't have like 14 LB's on scholarship, we could have room for a DT or two.
You also look at the crop of 3 DL in Arkansas next year. I am certain we get 2 of the 3 if not all three. Plus kid from Wisconsin. They will provide the depth on the DL after this year.
14 LB's? Really? Dont think your close on that one. Next year will be a good DT class. Being able to offer playing time is big. In-State is Strong plus Evans. Was this guy you wanted that awesome?
Hog_fan - didn't I say something about responding to my posts - if you can't "Get" the 14 LB's was sarcastic - well, just stop...
If I was wanting to be "Actual" - its more like 10 including this class.
You make good points on the situation at DT. I'm guessing that they will bring in a JC there next year to go along with the 3-4 HS guys they will sign that play the position.
It isn't optimum situation, that is for certain but after next year,it should be remedied.
