Bruce Feldman on coaching candidates

  • While all four I am sure are good football coachs, I don't think they will get the Arkansas job after this year.

I think we have better options and better fits. Also on Strong, he might want to look at getting rid of his DL coach because he is going to get into some trouble for what he did at Miami, Hurt is his name.

    He don't have a clue.

  • Although I think the job is better than Hudspeth, Doeren, or Cristobal, I do agree with Feldman on Holgorsen. With conference realignment going where the way it is, coaches won't jump for mostly lateral jobs like they used to unless it's to position themselves to win a NC. This is why I think Patterson and Holgorsen stay where they are. A Paul Rhoads or Charlie Strong on the other hand are effected by realignment and would crawl to Arkansas.

I agree. Once he listed Malzahn I knew he was just writing a story to fill the screen and had done no research. Malzahn has a very very small chance but that is the one choice that would save me lots of money in donations and tickets.

I guess he is a great guy as some say but others who claim to know insist he is somewhat of a back stabber. It did not take Chiesik long to get him out of town. Also, I do not like his offense. Take away Cam Newton and he would not be as highly thought of as he is.

The difference between a BP and Gus is BP takes a good QB like Tyler and makes him a top ten pick in draft and makes Tyler look better.
Gus got lucky and got the 1st pick in the draft won the national championship but did not really improve the kid (he has talent and was worth every penny) and Gus is the one who looked better than he really is as a OC.
Not trying to be mean to Gus but that is how it appears to me.

I do not think Gus will ever be a coach here because of the fan base. Now regardless of who the coach is I will never stop going to games and supporting the program. I am a Razorback fan not a coach fan.

I have read for the last two years how Auburn got lucky and only won because of Cam. Well, I would take a little luck and let one player lead us to a NC.

    LendHog

  • I think they did get lucky to some extent but I think it is fair to say that they would NOT have won it without him.

Matter of fact I do not think they would have beat us or Bama that year.

Sour grapes? It's okay to admit that they won it. I can't stand Auburn, but they were pretty salty. They scored 65 points on us. I don't care who they have, there is no excuse for that. Fairly was pretty dominate to. Remove Tyler from our team are we as good?

I understand what you are saying but my original point is Bobby made Tyler and Cam made Gus and you do not have to agree but that is how I see it now. Gus can prove me wrong in the next 5 years but it will surprise me.

No sour grapes but I do not think they beat us without cam withour without Gus. That is not emotional sour grapes JMO.

We will never know because my time machine broke when I was trying to redo the Tenn game in 1998. It was made in China.

I gotcha now. BP did make Tyler a top QB. Cam is just a freak. That's why I wish we recruited a little better to land that freak to lead us to a NC. I don't care if it's a one man show. I'll take it :-). On Gus who knows. We will find out now that he is a head coach. I will give him credit in this. Everywhere he has been he has been a winner. Time will tell now. I really don't think anyone can win at ASU. Maybe that is sour grapes from me because I can't stand them.

I know Auburns pass defense that year was notorious, but correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't they have one of the top run defenses? In the SEC you have to stop the run and we really struggle there.

  • Holgorsen and Strong would both be home run hires. Long would we smart to go after them both.

Cristobal and Doreen...not so much. If we're going to slide that far down the list then we should go after their counterparts Mark Hudspeth and Paul Chryst. Even then those should be we have struck out everywhere else hires.

then I will take strong and a top 20 recruiting class in 2012.

    OC and DC to stay

To me as a head coach Strong had not proven enough. I like Franklin a whole lot better. If Strong wins 11 games this year I might Change my mind. In Franklin, I know he does not have the resume either, but you gotta admit he is impressive. I think he could recruit to the hill.

  • I want to hit people when they bring up Strong and Malzahn....mostly because the internet makes people crazy and also because it is wasted post since neither has any chance

Not sure why Strong bothers you. He's one of the top young coaches in the game and will be coaching in the SEC sooner than later. He's going to be at the top of every big job opening after this season most likely.
