  • The only way Jeff Long gets out of this mess is if he comes out and throws Lesticles under the bus and tells everyone including the media that Les approached Arkansas and we listened but nothing transpired.. any thoughts??? megaphone

    Long can tell his other targets that he was helping his old friend get a raise. Or that there was no serious interest beyond just an exploratory call that Les and his agent took too seriously. There are plenty of explanations Jeff can use to assure his candidate that he is the number one choice.

    Remember that Jeff doesn't have to convince the media or the fan base of his sincerity - just the next coach(s) on his list.

  • Honor and Integrity?? What about the fact that MOST of the Arkansas Faithful Hate Les Miles?!?!?!?!
    I still think you can spin this to where it points to Les causing all this uproar which by many accounts are very plausible...

  • This Les Miles deal is troubling at best.

    I'm not happy that my athletic director is enept enough to go after Les Miles, not to mention at this late hour in the search.

    I also don't want to think that my Athletic Director went out and helped his "buddy" who happens to be the HC at one of our biggest and most hated rivals.

    Troubling, at best. This makes me worry that many, if not all, of our top targets have told us "no". Time will tell. I will hold out hope.

One of our biggest rivals is now having to shell out more money to keep their coach. And as long as Lester is wearing the trucker hat on the LSU sideline we will always have a solid chance to beat them.

    Say what you want about Les Miles, but he's a good fit at LSU.

    I am not saying he's an idiot, but this Les Miles flirtation, offer, call it what you want, could hurt him with candidates in my opinion. The reason I felt good about the hire is every person I know who I trust and is remotely close to Long kept telling me he had someone in mind and everyone would be pleased with the wow hire. Then I heard the Chris Petersen stuff on Friday and I thought they are right this guy is going to hit a home run. I am not going to judge Jeff until the hire is made, he may still get a top coach like I was told last night. What would worry me if I am Long is he has made integrity a key in his coaching search requiring that from the new coach. I wonder if he told the two coaches who are coaching this weekend oh I want you, but by the way I am talking to Les Miles too. Besides, why would Long talk to Miles and let it get to point national media was reporting it as a 5 year 27 million offer? Jeff can't be gullible enough to think Miles would leave LSU for Arkansas. A blind man could see Miles and his agent were using Long for a raise at LSU. You get a seven month headstart for this? As I said I will hold off judgement on Long until the hire is made, but just not sure how he got suckered into this with Les.

    There are only two thoughts that I can believe.

    One he is trying to get the pressure off of the #1 choice or calling Miles proves Long is an idiot.

    If he comes into the press conference with Smart and says "smile" we will know.

    I am very uneasy with Jeffrey and his decision making -- JLS and calling Miles do not help my feeling about Jeffrey.
