UA prospects on display in tourneys

The state tournaments for high school basketball will begin on Tuesday at five different locations and then on Wednesday at the other two spots.

Little Rock Hall 5-star power forward Bobby Portis is hoping to lead the Warriors to a state title.

Several potential University of Arkansas recruits will be on display at various locations. Greenwood will host the Class 6A State Tournament while Fayetteville has the 7A. Greenwood begins on Tuesday while Fayetteville starts on Wednesday.

On Tuesday at Greenwood, Little Rock Hall 5-star recruit Bobby Portis will play against Lake Hamilton at 2:30. Portis signed with Arkansas in November and is one of the more decorated recruits in the state's history. He has composite grade on 247Sports of 99, No. 16 player in nation, No. 5 power forward and No.1 recruit in Arkansas' Class of 2013.

In addition, Portis was recently named a McDonald's All-American. He will play in the McDonald's All-American game on April 3 at the Chicago United Center. Then, on April 13, Portis will play in the Jordan Brand Classic the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

On Wednesday at 2:30 at Fayetteville High School, Conway will take on Van Buren. The Wampus Cats will be led by sophomore small forward Adrian Moore. Moore already holds offers from the Razorbacks and Baylor.

At 8:30 Wednesday night, Bryant two-sport standout K.J. Hill and his teammates will challenge Cabot. Hill is one of the top football and basketball prospects in Arkansas' Class of 2015. The Razorbacks and many others are taking a hard look at him in football, but he will also be heavily recruited on the hardcourt.

On Wednesday at 2:30 at Greenwood, Jonesboro will face Sheridan. Jonesboro has Class of 2014 standout point guard Kahron Ross. Ross has Arkansas and Arkansas State taking a long look at him. He has been to Arkansas on different occasions on unofficial visits.

Then, on Wednesday night in Greenwood, Little Rock Parkview will be pitted against Texarkana. Parkview is led by Class of 2014 composite 4-star point guard Anton Beard. He's rated the No. 18 point guard in the nation in 247Sports' composite rankings, No. 82 recruit in nation and No. 1 recruit in Arkansas' Class of 2014.

Beard decommitted from Missouri on Feb. 13 and has reopened his recruiting. Arkansas and Mississippi State have moved into contention along with Missouri and maybe others. Beard is a true point guard and would provide a nice boost to any team he joined.

Watson Chapel is hosting the Class 5A State Tournament. On Thursday. Forrest City forward Trey Thompson will try to take down Magnolia at 5:30. Thompson has offers to Arkansas, Florida, Memphis and Mississippi State.

Back in Fayetteville on Thursday, host Fayetteville will play the winner of the Conway-Van Buren game at 5:30. Fayetteville has guard Manuale Watkins who is drawing plenty of recruiting attention. Watkins is a senior.

On Friday in Fayetteville, North Little Rock Class of 2015 standout KeVaughn Allen will try to help his team get past the winner of the Bryant-Cabot game. Allen has offers to Arkansas, Arizona, Baylor, Nebraska, Virginia and Connecticut. Allen and North Little Rock will play at 5:30.

Then at 8:30 on Friday night, Springdale Class of 2015 point guard Tereke Eckwood and the Bulldogs will be ready to play the winner of Thursday's Rogers and West Memphis game. Eckwood has taken some unofficial visits to Arkansas.

Due to last week's snow storm, some regionals are just wrapping up today and more prospects will likely be in the state tournaments following the conclusion of all the regionals.
