OXFORD, Miss. – The Arkansas Razorbacks were beaten on the backboards and beaten on the scoreboard Wednesday night.

Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson says his Razorbacks "need to continue to work hard and trust one another."
Ole Miss outrebounded Arkansas 48-26, and the Rebels defeated the Hogs 71-63 at Tad Smith Coliseum.
“We showed our youth tonight,” Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said about the loss. “We had our opportunities and just didn’t play as well as we’ve been playing.”
The Rebels (11-5, 1-1 SEC) scored 17 second-chance points on 18 offensive rebounds. Ole Miss shot 19 for 26 from the free-throw line, while the Razorbacks were just 9 of 17.
“Every time we got in position, they got an offensive rebound or foul,” Anderson said.
Senior forward Marvell Waithe scored a career high 15 points for Arkansas (12-4, 1-1), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped.
Waithe scored his career-high for Arkansas on 6-of-10 shooting and knocked down a career-high 3 three-pointers.
The Rebels made 21 turnovers, but the Razorbacks were unable to overcome a strong Ole Miss frontline.
After trailing by 13 points in the second half, Arkansas cut the Ole Miss lead to five when freshman B.J Young’s fast-break dunk made it 59-54 with 4:16 left in the game. That was as close as the Razorbacks got, as back-to-back hoops by the Rebels pushed the lead to 63-54, with 3:16 remaining. Ole Miss answered each Arkansas comeback attempt in the final minutes to seal the victory.
The Razorbacks matched the play of the Rebels for the majority of a first half that featured eight lead changes and three ties. Arkansas countered Mississippi’s 26-10 rebounding edge by forcing 11 turnovers which turned into 12 points. Back-to-back layups by Young and freshman Rashad Madden pulled Arkansas within two points, 29-27, with 3:18 to play in the half, but the Razorbacks managed just two points in that final stretch and trailed 37-29 at the break.
Waithe did his best to keep Arkansas within striking distance in the second half. He scored the Hogs’ first five points of the half on a layup and a three-pointer to bring the Razorbacks within 39-34, with 17:08 left. A five-minute Arkansas scoring drought followed, however, allowing the Rebels to open up a 47-34 lead with 12:11 to go. Arkansas did not get within five points again until Young’s dunk late in the game.
“We need to continue to work hard and trust one another,” Anderson said. “We’re still learning.”
Waithe also had three steals and four rebounds. Young scored 14 points, and junior Julysses Nobles and sophomore Rickey Scott added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Scott led the Razorbacks with five rebounds and five assists.
Forwards Murphy Holloway and Reginald Buckner had a combined 27 points and 25 rebounds to lead Ole Miss. Nick Williams added 18 points and eight boards.
The Razorbacks return to action Saturday with a home game against LSU at 8 p.m. inside Bud Walton Arena.
