McDonald talks move, recruiting

WR Coach George McDonald

George McDonald feels like Arkansas has the tools to attract top-notch athletes from around the country.

New wide receivers coach George McDonald hit on a number of topics Thursday during a teleconference, including his ties to current Hog coaches and his recruiting background.

    • I really look forward to seeing how this staff can recruit. I hope the rest of the hires have some Texas ties but at this point who can complain.

    • I just remain speechless at the depth and quality of the staff Jeff Long has obtained for Arkansas, both hiring Bielema and then granting him the flexibility to go out and get an unbelievably fine staff. A lot of people unjustifiably bash Long, but Arkansas fans really don't grasp what a fine AD we have. He obviously wants a national championship and is doing whatever it takes to get that. And a big thumbs up to the BoT for providing Long with the funds.

    • My only complaint with the staff right now is the lack of Texas ties. However, I think that a good recruiter can recruit any where he is at. I was much more concerned with the type of coaches and type of recruiters we hired, then I was with their connections. I hope he gets someone with very good connections in these next few hires, but overall I am very happy so far.

    • Guys Jerry jones will open doors for us in Texas! Petrino was a horrible recruiter and still pulled some pretty good Texas talent and I think Bret will more than hold his own in the recruiting battle!

    • Cane fan here,
You guys got a heck of a coach, while he was kind of low key and we didn't hear his name mentioned much on the recruiting trail (not to say he's not a good recruiter), he worked wonders with our young receiving corps and really helped develop them into one of our best and deepest positions on our roster. It's sad to see him go as I liked the continuity of our staff and he did a great job himself. I would have rather seen him move up the latter opposed to a lateral move if he did have to leave but I guess moving to a higher paying SEC school is considered a promotion. Good luck to Coach McDonald and I wish you guys the best in recovering from your recent scandal and transitioning into a new coaching staf, which you guys have done a heck of a job assembling. I hope we can find a suitable replacement.
