Long not to blame for dismal season

Excellent article Otis! There are a lot of people that need to read this. Far too much blame is being placed on Jeff Long for this season's results.

Long not to blame for dismal season- Amen !

Long was in a no-win situation in April and early May. Could he have made a better interim hire? I think so, but hey who is to say that would have made any difference? He has positioned himself to make a very good hire in December and if he does that then he has done his job very well with the hand that he was dealt by BP.

Long didn't have to bring Bozo back from Weber. I do hold that against him and rightfully so. My God, Smith is the one that called him. Real hard search right there.

I don't think anyone, especially me, expected a homerun hire in the spring, but given Long's history with Grobe and Bowden, let me assure you peeps I damn sure don't expect one in December either.

Randy and the Runt. I agree with both on you on the John L hiring part of it. I agree a 100 percent with you on that.

I support Long and think he has done a great job. However, it needs to be pointed out that if Long had done his job, Dorrell never would have been hired. Petrino could not have gone outside the standard hiring practices and hired Dorrell the way he did without Long signing off on it. Was Long wrong for trusting his head coach and signing off on the hire, I don't know. What is absolutely true is that Long had to sign off on the hire before it was final. With that said, I think Long needs to hire a great head coach and all will be forgotten.

This season is not to blame on anyone solely. There are many, many factors that have lead us to where we are. The number one factor is BP, though. His recruiting left us with a sever lack of talent on defense, O-line, and with almost zero depth anywhere(ex. FB). BP also morally hurt this team when he did what he did. JL also has to take some blame though. He could of not brought in the clown, JLS, but would that had made much of a difference on how our season has gone? I really don't believe one of these assistants would have done any better, because they are all terrible, IMO. At least our program would of been saved some embarrassment though. Last, I think you have to look at some of the players. These kids have tasted success at the highest level in college football. They should of been absolutely hungry to get back to that level. But every week they come and look like a team that has no motivation and drive to be successful. I mean, a coach can only do a certain amount and then the rest will fall on the players. That being said a coach does a strong influence over the intensity his team play with, so there ya go.

Anyways, I believe that BP is to mainly blame. I mean hell, could he just not wreak the bike? If he could ride the thing and not crashed, then we are good, but no.

Oh give me a break. Quit being so naive. You know darn well that Petrino ran things over there. Hell, he made 5 times what Long makes. So tell me, who makes the decisions in a case like that ??

Long was/is just a figurehead when it comes to the football program. The head coach is who runs things. Everyone knows that, at least I thought everyone knew that.

Long is responsible IMO and I will explain later.

He botched the whole deal from the firing which he handled poorly to JLS.
